Bon Appetit!

Tonight, Daniel and I made a delicous roasted chicken with vegetables and a potato casserole. Both recipes were courtesy of Julia Child's cookbook, which I received for my birthday. Overall, there was a lot of butter, it took a long time, and it was amazing!

Are We First?

This is what we woke up to this morning in Kentucky. Friday the 26th day of November.

It's a little early for snow down here, usually we don't see much until December but, weather-wise it's been a schizophrenic year.

It goes without saying that my heading title is directed farther north. I'm sure we beat anyone who may live south of here - say - Alabama!

10 weeks!

image

10 weeks this week—we’re getting closer and closer to the end of the first trimester.  I’ve regressed a little in terms of nausea and general feeling blah-ness, but I think it’s still less overall.

I definitely have a little belly, but I think it’s more fat and bloating due to my eating habits and nonexistent gym schedule these days.  The baby is only about 1.5 inches, so I don’t think that accounts for my bigger belly quite yet!!

How far along? 10 weeks

Total weight gain/loss: +4 lbs total

Maternity clothes?  yep—nearly exclusively in terms of pants, with a few dresses and skirts that still fit.

Stretch marks? nope.

Sleep: always exhausted—loving my sleep these days!

Movement: none yet

Food cravings: nothing has sounded good the last few weeks….how can I be nauseous AND starving at the same time??

Gender: ……

What I am looking forward to: my second midwife appointment tomorrow!

9 Weeks

IMG_0163IMG_0165

See that little pooch in front?  Yeah—not a baby, just fat. Smile

I think.

Anyway, here we are at 9 weeks—that pencil skirt is a maternity skirt and possibly my favorite new article of clothing.  Soft and stretchy with plenty of belly room means it’s my new best friend.

Baby was the size of a green olive this week—about an inch or so long!

How far along? 9 weeks

Total weight gain/loss: +4 lbs total

Maternity clothes?  oh yes.  I just recently figured out to use the Bella Band, which stretches over unzipped pre-pregnancy jeans, but it’s either those, my maternity jeans or pants and a select few skirts & dresses.

Stretch marks? nope.

Sleep: not bad—I can still sleep comfortably.  I just have to pee all the time!

Movement: none yet

Food cravings: I tend to get fixated on one particular item that I must have at that moment.  It changes daily, but has ranged from ice cream to chicken sandwiches to soup to pb&j to smoothies to trail mix to……you get the idea.

Gender: ……

What I am looking forward to: my next appt and the end of the first trimester and exhaustion and nausea!!

Cats Roar Past E. Tenn St with the Help of the Kitten

Lexington, KY - Following the University of Kentucky Wildcatsopening season win over East Tennessee St late Friday night, videotape of the contest may reveal what some folks are calling the 'UK Kitten', the smallest basketball fan ever. Clad in a UK blue hat (pictured below in approximately the 10th row of Rupp Arena) and not much else, The Kitten attended Friday nights contest seemingly hovering in a belly full of goop and apple crisp donuts. The AP sports wire is reporting this as of yet unnamed embryo, is a die hard Cats fan that will be following Coach Cal & the Cats throw the 2010 season.

Editor's Note: AP resources have as of yet been able to figure out how future Pro bust and former Wildcat DeMarcus Cousins seems to be in a picture from tonight's game??

First Ultrasound

PicturePicture2

Ta-da!!

Here are the pictures from our very first ultrasound at 8 weeks, 2 days.  I know it’s hard to see, but there’s the baby inside that dark black circle.  S/he’s about an inch long at this point, with tiny little arms and legs up in the air.  Everything looked great and the whole thing took less than 10 minutes.  Crazy!

I’m still playing catch up with my weekly photos, here—this is from nearly three weeks ago, at 8 weeks!

Week 8 was “raspberry” week and the week we had our ultrasound!

Election Night

IMG_0153

I took this picture of F. Scott & Zelda while we were watching the election returns last Tuesday night.  As you can see, the Bear is quite alarmed at the results, while Bean is just disgruntled and pessimistic.

A Halloween Oldie

While we're on the subject of Halloween here's a golden oldie for Matt and Daniel to enjoy. Looking forward to some comments on this one!

Halloween From Kentucky

Last night we had Trick or Treat here in Frankfort. We usually have a lot of traffic but last night was unusually heavy mainly due to the nice weather. We went thru 7 large bags of treats and candy in 70 minutes and then had to shut down. A new record I think. Below are some shots of the event with a couple of the cutest tricksters we encountered starting with, what would an event in Kentucky be without a future UK cheerleader as well as her puppy dog in a UK sweater!
Here is a particularly cute brother and sister act.

They even came in golf carts!

Just a sample view up the street I took when I came out to survey the scene. This was during a slow period!

And a spooky good night to all!

7 Weeks!

IMG_0134IMG_0135

Obviously this post is a bit late (I’m back-dating it), but here’s my 7 week “bump.”  Yes, let’s be clear—that’s not a bump, it’s just some belly fat I’ve added in the last few months that may or may not be baby-related.

Dog cupcakes

I made the mistake of buying this cupcake book at Target on Sunday will all sorts of cute designs for cupcakes. Needless to say, I spent many hours last night making dog cupcakes! I thought it was fitting for my community practice rotation. So I made the chocolate lab, dachshund, and beagle. Delicious!

We’ve Got Some News…

DSCN0162DSCN0163DSCN0165

So these pictures are from the beginning of October when I first took the home pregnancy test and our different reactions.

This is actually the second test I took, so you’re not getting the true first reaction.  To accurately capture that, I would have taken a picture of my toothbrush and toothpaste tossed in the sink where I started to brush my teeth while waiting for the test results before I saw it.  Hee hee Smile

Animals

This is my first post. These are pictures of my animals.

This is Lucy and our cat, Fred, who has a broken pelvis.

Warehouse Bistro

On Friday night, Daniel and I went on a date since we had not seen each other all week. We went to dinner at Warehouse Bistro in Opelika. It was this small, adorable restaurant in the middle of nowhere Alabama that had candles in wine bottles and a huge wine menu. I had the roasted duck with cherry glaze and Daniel had the filet, of course.

Handsome Man

IMG00178-20100927-1634

I realize that all of my pictures of Matt are super flattering, so I thought I’d post this one for some balance.  He had just pulled into the driveway after biking home from the gym and this was his state.  Please note the lovely sweat stain below the “Adopt a Dog” on his shirt. :)

CJ's Birthday

Yesterday was CJ's birthday and we went out to the Commonwealth Credit Union's Big Car Sale on Saturday. As all of you know I've been thinking about trading my BIG, BIG truck for something a little more economical and sensible so - - pictured above is our result of much hemming and hawing and gnashing of teeth, a Toyota Tacoma. I told CJ that it was for her birthday that I traded.

Here is her reaction to that bit of news! "Let's see", she said, "you get to drive a brand new truck and it's for my birthday?" Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Anyway as the coda to this fascinating family story, we traveled to Louisville to the Shane Company where I bought her a birthstone necklace in a simple but classy setting. And they lived happily ever after.

Fall Comes to New England

DSCN0100

I noticed that the leaves are starting to change around here.  I hadn’t really been paying attention, but driving up this street the other day, I noticed the bright yellow and red everywhere!  Yay fall!

St. Michael’s Parish Festival

DSCN0101

We volunteer every year at the St. Michael’s parish International Festival where they celebrate the ethnic diversity of their parish with tons of different food, dances, and general merriment.  Our students run the game for the kids and I wander and take photos. :)

These little girls were about to do a Mexican dance—aren’t they cute?

Ivy League Football?

IMG00177-20100925-1807

Saturday night we also went to a college football game, albeit with a slightly different setting.  Let’s just say: Jordan Hare Stadium’s got nothing on this Brown v. Harvard crowd.

Brown won with Harvard never leading and it was a nearly sell-out crowd!  Woot!

War Eagle!

Game day is crazy in Auburn, AL! On saturday, I spent the entire day surrounded by Auburn football. First, there was tailgating at the Alpha Psi house downtown next to the stadium. We had rotisserie chicken, beer cheese, 7 layer dip, chips, rice krispie treats, cupcakes, and beer. Next we got to the student section of the stadium 2 1/2 hours before the game started to get a decent seat. The game was great, I couldn't believe that Auburn won! War eagle!
