Waterfire & the Philharmonic

Last night we went to Waterfire, Providence's claim to fame.  This was a special one, with the RI Philharmonic playing in the middle of a plaza and thousands of chairs set up for people to watch.  The pictures are a little dark, but they give you some idea of what's happening: bonfires are lit up and down the Providence River downtown and a lot of people come watch, listen to the music, visit the vendors (e.g., DEL'S), and generally hang out.  It's good times and last one was perfect weather!

Birthday Party

My friends and I threw Daniel a surprise birthday party tonight! I made the golf course cake in the picture and my friend Alyson bought decorations including a cookie monster pinata! Who knew that watching people spin around and try to hit a pinata would be so much fun! We had a great time and the cake was delicious :)

Ambulatory!

Look at me, look at me! I am actually doing real veterinary work! I feel like everyone thinks I give vaccines and pet pretty kittens all day at school so I made my fellow rotation mates photograph our day on ambulatory today. In this picture I am doing an abaxial nerve block. I'm injecting 3 ml of carbocaine to desensitize the horse's foot so she can walk. I also pulled a shoe, pared out some sole off the bottom of the foot, took xrays, and ultrasounded a tendon. Busy day!

Yes, I Still Use the Library

I'm on a waiting list for about 15 books right now, and naturally five of them came in at the same time.  It's a good mix of mindless novels (Suite Francaise & World Without End), memoirs (What I Talk About When I Talk About Running & Bitter is the New Black) and Skinny Bitch, which I read in a matter of hours.  Pretty hilarious, even if I don't agree that fake soy chicken is actually better for you than organic free-range and hormone free chicken. :)  So now you know what I'll be doing the next few weeks before school starts back in earnest: reading on the porch, beach, park, and in the a/c, of course.

Goofs, the Bean & the Bear

Aren't they sweet?  Only pet picture this week, promise.  Unless they do something adorable.

Moving Time

Today, Daniel and I packed boxes since we are moving soon. It was fun to see all of the stuff we have accumulated over the last 2 years but also a pain in the butt to wrap all of our china. This is the bottle on Domperione that we had on our honeymoon cruise. Horrible champagne, good memories!

Pastiche!

Tonight I took a student to Pastiche, a dessert shop on Federal Hill, aka the Italian area of town with some of the best restaurants in New England.  It was hopping: people everywhere in the square and some kind of karaoke contest going down.  But, we scrambled through the crowd for the important business at hand: dessert.
I went with the lemon custard tart (top center) that came with blackberry sauce and whipped cream.  Yum!

I made fondant for Daniel's birthday cake tonight. At the same time I managed to cover half of the kitchen in powdered sugar. Good times:)

I Found (& Destroyed) My First Gray Hair

Oh yes, that's right.  First gray hair (not bad for teetering on the edge of 29) of my life was staring me in the face, mocking me this morning in the mirror.  I plucked out that bad boy right away and documented the evidence.

Welcome to our Worlds!

We are two sisters living MUCH too far apart who wanted to reconnect in a unique way with each other and other family and friends.  Then again, if you're reading this, you probably already know most of this.

Angie lives in Providence, RI working in campus ministry and spends most of her time watching reality shows on Bravo or spending thousands of dollars on emergency pet care for Goops, the Bear, and the Bean.  Her husband, Matt, is funny.

Ashley works hard in Auburn, AL finishing up her rotations in veterinary school to work on big dogs of the horse variety.  She likes to eat cake, read Twilight, and complain about Auburn.  Daniel smiles and nods at her antics.

We're not promising anything exciting here, so consider yourselves warned!  We just wanted a daily photo project to share the mundane details of our lives with our family (we miss you KENTUCKY!).

Did I mention we're awkward?

(and I wasn't even talking about the shirt)

(so I like sprinkles on my ice cream, ok?)

Hope you enjoy following along!
